At 9 am on Sunday October 10, 19
students from the Claremont Colleges arranged their nude bodies on the
Pomona College quad to spell the word VOTE. Our photo was distributed
around the campuses along with information on registering to vote.
With this photo we wish to
convey that our democratic rights, like our bodies, are powerful but
vulnerable. Many people find nude demonstrations an extreme form of
political action, but we believe that the current crisis of voter
apathy warrants such methods. We are a student body that will not watch
silently while our democracy crumbles. Too much hinges upon the
upcoming presidential election for anyone to forfeit his or her right
to vote. We demand that U.S. citizens weigh their choices carefully and
take action.
